Instagram May Let You Share Comments On Threads Too

Meta’s popular photo-sharing platform, Instagram, may soon introduce a new feature that bridges the gap with its text-based counterpart, Threads. This development was uncovered by Alessandro Paluzzi, a well-known reverse engineer who frequently reports upcoming features in Meta’s social media applications.

Paluzzi shared a screenshot that suggests a significant change to Instagram’s commenting system. The image depicts a new dropdown menu appearing when users leave a comment on an Instagram post. This menu would allow users to keep their comments exclusive to Instagram or “also share on Threads.”

Meta continues to explore ways to integrate its various social media platforms, with Threads being a key focus of these efforts. Previous initiatives have included displaying Threads posts on Instagram and Facebook, though users were later given the option to opt out of this cross-posting feature.

Notably, while Threads lacks its direct messaging system, users can still communicate privately through Instagram’s messaging infrastructure.

However, Meta’s most ambitious project regarding Threads is its gradual integration with the fediverse, a network of decentralized social media platforms. Recent developments in this area include allowing Threads users to view replies from fediverse users on their posts. In a more recent update, this visibility has been expanded to include posts from other users as well.

These incremental steps suggest Meta’s commitment to positioning Threads as a bridge between its established social media ecosystem and the growing world of decentralized social networks.
