Karachi Begins The First Phase of Safe City Project

Karachi has officially rolled out the first phase of its Safe City Project, installing 25 surveillance cameras across five key locations to enhance security. The project is overseen by the Sindh Safe Cities Authority, with live footage being monitored at the Central Police Office (CPO) Command and Control Centre.

According to Asif Ijaz Sheikh, Director General of the Sindh Safe Cities Authority, 43 poles have been installed across the city so far, and the surveillance system aims to assist law enforcement in reducing crime and improving public safety.

The live footage will be displayed in real-time at the S4 Control Room in the CPO to help police monitor suspicious activities and respond quickly. The Safe City Project, valued at over Rs. 3 billion, was officially launched earlier this year by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar.

He noted that the initiative will make Karachi one of the safest cities in Pakistan. The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase expected to finish within the next 12 months.

The Sindh government hopes the project will significantly reduce crime across the city. Phase two will see the expansion of this surveillance system to other cities within Sindh.
