FBR is Now Threatening to Block SIMs, Cut Electricity Connections of Taxpayers

The Federal Board of Revenue has warned taxpayers that it will block Mobile Phone SIMs, cut electricity and gas connections, and ban international travel for not filing income tax returns by the given deadline i.e. September 30, 2024.

The tax machinery has made news of this by sending emails to non-filers. Under Section 114(1)(b)(vii) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, individuals with taxable income are required to file their tax returns for the tax year 2024 by 30th September. Failure to do so may result in consequences as mentioned above.

FBR said it has complete financial transaction records and emphasized the correct submission of tax returns.

“If you do not submit your tax return for the year 2024, the FBR has the right to impose fines or take legal action. It said the regulator is also authorized to initiate further investigations into the financial activities of defaulters, which could result in a detailed audit and even heavy fines in some cases,” it said.

In light of the above, you are urged to file your national tax return for the year 2024 by 30th September, FBR added.
