MediaTek is poised to unveil its latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400, in the coming month. The Taiwanese semiconductor company has made bold claims about the chipset’s graphics capabilities, featuring Arm’s Immortalis-G925 GPU. MediaTek asserts this will be “the highest performing, most efficient GPU to date.”
Recent benchmark results appear to support these claims, particularly in terms of raw performance. These results even beat Apple’s latest A18 Pro chipset capable of running AAA games such as Resident Evil: Village and Deathstranding.
In the GFX Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulkan benchmark, the Dimensity 9400’s GPU achieved an impressive score of 134 frames per second (fps). This result significantly outpaces its competitors, with Apple’s A18 Pro managing 72 fps and last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reaching 95 fps in the same test.
The GFXBench suite’s Aztec test, a key component in evaluating mobile graphics performance, is designed to simulate demanding 3D gaming environments. This benchmark specifically targets the limits of graphics hardware, with a particular focus on the Vulkan API, known for its high-performance capabilities.
The “1440p” designation indicates that the test was conducted at QHD resolution, demanding higher detail rendering. However, it’s important to note that the “off-screen” nature of this test isolates the GPU’s raw performance from the influence of display resolution, providing a more direct measure of the graphics unit’s capabilities.
While these benchmark results demonstrate the potential of the Dimensity 9400 and its Immortalis-G925 GPU, the real-world performance of a chipset is heavily dependent on its implementation within a smartphone.
As such, the true impact of MediaTek’s latest offering will only become clear once it’s integrated into 2025’s flagship smartphones. We will have to wait and see which flagship phones will go for the Dimensity 9400 in 2025.
