MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Confirmed to Launch in October With AI Upgrades

Chipmaker MediaTek is working on a new flagship processor, the Dimensity 9400, to launch in October. The company is using advanced technology and TSMC’s cutting-edge 3 nm manufacturing process to create a powerful and energy-efficient chip.

MediaTek believes the Dimensity 9400 is powerful enough to handle complex tasks like running large language models directly on smartphones. The company is optimistic about the chip’s potential to significantly boost its revenue compared to last year.

MediaTek announced on July 31st that its upcoming Dimensity 9400 chip will be significantly better at handling artificial intelligence tasks than its predecessor. The company claims a 40% increase in AI performance compared to the Dimensity 9300, which delivered 48 TOPS.

The chipmaker is positioning itself as the leader in AI processing for smartphones. However, this advanced technology will likely lead to higher prices for phones using the Dimensity 9400.

MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 chip is expected to prioritize performance over energy efficiency, similar to its predecessor. Reports claim it will lack power efficiency cores, just like the Dimensity 9300. The chip will reportedly use ARM’s BlackHawk architecture and rely solely on high-performance cores to deliver top-tier speed.

Rumors suggest the Dimensity 9400 will have MediaTek’s largest die size to date, with a size of 150mm² and containing 30 billion transistors. However, the chip’s actual performance needs to be evaluated through real-world tests.

MediaTek is also working with Nvidia to produce EV chips expected to launch sometime during 2025. Nvidia will provide the GPU for these chips while MediaTek will work on the CPU + ISP.
