Social Media Ban Reaches Islamabad Police Officers Too

The Establishment Division has issued a directive regarding the social media policy for police officers in Islamabad. According to the notification, no police officer is allowed to express their personal opinions on media without prior permission.

Police officers are prohibited from taking pictures or videos in police uniforms, government vehicles, or government buildings for personal use. No police officer is allowed to upload any content on social media.

Federal police officers or employees are not permitted to express their personal or religious views on social media. The activities of police officers will be represented through the IG office’s public relations.

If a federal police officer or employee needs to convey any information through social media, they will be required to obtain permission from the DI (Deputy Inspector) or the IG office’s public relations.

In case of any violation, the concerned unit’s officers will be held responsible, and disciplinary action will be taken against them.

This policy update comes after the same social media ban was placed on police officers in Sindh, Punjab, and KP. Police officers from these regions are no longer allowed to post anything on social media, especially in police uniforms or official vehicles.

A similar ban was placed on police personnel earlier this year on the use of TikTok and other social media platforms. However, due to the non-compliance of this directive, senior police authorities have issued yet another order to ban the use of social platforms among officers of the law.
