Microsoft has warned users that some Windows 11 systems may enter reboot loops or freeze after installing the September 2024 KB5043145 preview update. This update was released on Thursday, addressing several issues, including freezes with Edge and the task manager.
However, after releasing the update, Microsoft added a new issue to the KB5043145 support document. Users of Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 may experience restart loops or unresponsive computers.
Some customers reported that their devices restart multiple times or freeze with blue or green screens, Microsoft said. Some devices automatically open the Automatic Repair tool after several restart attempts. In certain cases, BitLocker recovery might also activate.
The Automatic Repair tool, included in the Windows Recovery Environment, helps fix systems with common problems like crashes. Microsoft is urging customers with boot issues after the KB5043145 update to submit feedback through the Feedback Hub.
The company is currently investigating the issue and promises an update as soon as more details emerge. In August, Microsoft resolved similar boot and freeze problems in Windows Server 2019 systems. They are also working to fix a bug that affects Linux booting on dual-boot systems with Secure Boot enabled. The August 2024 security updates introduced this issue.
In July, a bug in the Windows security updates caused some devices to boot into BitLocker recovery. Microsoft fixed the problem in August. However, they also addressed a restart loop issue caused by the June 2024 KB5039302 preview update. This update triggered restart loops and taskbar issues in Windows 11 systems.
