NA Panel Demands Ministry of IT to Finalize Freelancer Policy Within 90 Days

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT and Telecom on Monday demanded the federal government (IT Ministry) to finalize a freelancer policy within 90 days.

Secretary Ministry of IT briefed the committee that the 5G spectrum auction was scheduled for next year. He said the the government has hired a consultant to advise on how many licenses will be auctioned and the companies that will be allowed on the spectrum.

Telecom companies have begun preparing for the upgrade to 5G, though the exact rollout timeline remains uncertain. The committee urged swift action to ensure the launch of 5G by next year.

A briefing was also provided on the Universal Service Fund (USF). The fund has paid Rs. 16 billion to the federal government while Rs. 40.5 billion remains unpaid. Recent payments have begun following intervention by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The committee also discussed the implementation of the long-pending e-office initiative aimed at digitizing government operations. The Prime Minister has instructed that starting October 1 (today), all summaries must be processed through the e-office system. Ministries have been directed to expedite the full implementation of this system.
