RDA Increases Budget to Rs. 31.3 Million for VIP Route Upgrades

As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference nears, scheduled for October 15 and 16, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has intensified efforts to upgrade VIP routes in the city. The project’s budget has surged to Rs. 31.3 million, a significant jump from the initial Rs. 3.7 million allocated.

In an unusual move, the RDA has opted to award the contract through a single tender rather than the conventional open e-tendering process. Only one company, Tech Construction, has been chosen to bid for the project, with the tender expected to be opened on September 29.

RDA officials explained that the decision to use a single tender and increase the budget was driven by the urgency of the situation and the importance of the upcoming SCO conference.

They stressed that expanding the project’s scope was necessary to ensure the timely completion of road work and beautification within the old airport area, which is crucial for facilitating the smooth movement of foreign delegations.

The competent authority has approved the single tender process, emphasizing the need to prepare VIP routes ahead of this major international event. The enhancements are considered essential to the success of the SCO conference.
