Pakistan Railways Collects Over Rs. 20 Million From Ticketless Passengers

The Railways Multan Division collected over Rs. 20 million in September from passengers traveling without tickets under the category of fares and fines.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for PR Multan Division shared that the crackdown was initiated under the directives of Divisional Superintendent Railways Multan, Yousuf Leghari, and led by Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Ramla Shahid.

The spokesperson further revealed that a total of Rs. 20 million had been gathered from these passengers. During inspections in September 2024, 18,209 ticketless passengers were caught, with the recovered amount deposited into the railway treasury. Additionally, the official mentioned that passenger complaints were addressed and resolved during the inspections.

According to DCO Ramla Shahid, this is the first time in the history of the Multan Division that such a large-scale crackdown has been carried out against ticketless passengers.

She stressed that traveling without a ticket is a crime and advised passengers to avoid such behavior, warning that anyone caught will have pay both the fare and a fine from the train’s point of origin.
