Wynn Resorts, a major hotel and casino operator, has secured the UAE’s first commercial gambling operator’s license. The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) confirmed the news to Khaleej Times on Saturday.
The Las Vegas-based company is constructing Wynn Al Marjan Island, the first integrated gaming resort in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The resort is scheduled to open in early 2027 and will be located on a 62-hectare island in the Arabian Gulf. This multi-billion dollar project marks a significant milestone for the region.
The GCGRA did not disclose additional details about the license granted to Wynn Resorts. However, this is the second license issued by the authority, which oversees all commercial gaming activities in the UAE.
In July, the authority granted a license for the country’s first authorized lottery to The Game LLC, based in Abu Dhabi.
Wynn Al Marjan Island will offer more than gaming facilities. The resort will feature 1,542 rooms and suites, including 22 private villa estates.
Notably, this will be the first Wynn Resort located on a beach, unlike its properties in Las Vegas, Macau, and Boston Harbor.
