YouTube is introducing over a dozen updates to improve the experience for both viewers and creators across the web, mobile, TV, and YouTube Music. These updates inspired by user feedback focus on personalization, control, and ease of use.
A key highlight is the ability to fine-tune playback speed in 0.05 increments, allowing for more precise control over video viewing. You will now have additional playback speed options instead of just 0.25 increments.
The developers have revamped the mobile app’s mini-player, giving users the ability to resize and move the player while they continue browsing for new videos. Enhanced landscape browsing, with larger thumbnails and bigger text, will also roll out for iOS users later this year.
Playlist functionality is another area of focus. Users can now collaborate on playlists by inviting others via a link or QR code. Additionally, users can customize playlists with personal or AI-generated thumbnails. A voting feature will also allow friends and creators to vote on videos within a playlist, adding a more interactive layer.
YouTube is introducing a Sleep Timer feature, enabling users to set a time limit for videos, ensuring they don’t fall asleep mid-watch. Originally tested with Premium members, this feature is now available to all mobile users. To celebrate community involvement, YouTube is rolling out badges that users can earn by reaching certain milestones, such as being a top commenter or listener. Mobile users will see these badges in the “You” tab.
For TV viewers, there is a refreshed interface that enhances the cinematic feel of YouTube. It is coming with updates to Shorts and immersive previews of creator content on channel pages. This new design ensures an uninterrupted viewing experience while allowing interaction, such as reading comments or browsing products.
As YouTube is actively rolling out these features at the time of writing, it should only be a matter of time before they reach everyone.
