Karachi University Students Protest Against High Fee and Bad Facilities

Karachi University students have entered their seventh day of protests, voicing concerns over fee hikes and poor facilities, with a partial class boycott. The protests, led by the university’s student union, started at the Administrative Block and have garnered widespread support from various departments and student organizations.

Several university operations have been impacted, including the administrative offices, canteens, and departmental activities, which remain partially shut. In addition, bus services on campus have been halted as students block their operations.

The key demands from the students include:

  • 50% reduction in late fee charges.
  • Immediate removal of examination fees.
  • Abolition of the Rs. 5,000 re-admission fee.
  • Urgent repairs of broken-down buses and classroom improvements.

Protestors vow to continue their demonstrations until these issues are fully addressed, citing the persistent rise in fees and the declining quality of services provided by the university. Earlier, the students accused Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi of suspending campus bus services, forcing many to seek alternative transportation options.

In response to the protests, student leaders submitted their formal list of demands to the Vice Chancellor. After discussions, the student organization reported that the Vice Chancellor had agreed to meet some of their demands, though protests are expected to continue until full concessions are made.
