Google Chrome is infamous for its memory hogging tabs despite its memory saving features. But now the popular internet browser is getting a handy new feature to help you find which tabs are eating up the most memory.
The browser’s latest update brings “Performance issue alerts” and refinements to the existing Memory Saver feature, which automatically optimizes inactive tab resources.
A newly implemented Performance Detection system actively monitors tab behavior, triggering alerts when individual tabs exceed normal resource consumption. Users can easily spot these notifications through a speedometer-style indicator, conveniently positioned adjacent to their account profile picture in Chrome’s main toolbar.
This is where you will find it.

Clicking the speedometer icon reveals a detailed list of problematic tabs, presenting users with two options – “Dismiss” the alert or take immediate action with a “Fix now” button.
You can find the new Performance Alerts feature in Chrome’s settings menu found near the top right corner next to your account photo, which is visible in the GIF above. After clicking the three-dot menu, head over to Settings and then navigate to the “Performance” tab on the left.
Under the General category, a new “Performance issue alerts” toggle has been added, while the Memory section below contains the enhanced Memory Saver options.
If you are having trouble with Chrome’s memory hogging, try using the Memory Saver option that was first introduced in 2022. It puts your tabs to sleep soon after they become inactive. You can choose between “Moderate”, “Balanced”, and “Maximum.” We recommend using the “Maximum” option for lower end devices.
