The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a total ban on the sale and distribution of Famila Injection Batch 083, a contraceptive medication, following concerns over its quality.
DRAP released a “Recall Alert” and instructed pharmacies across Pakistan to immediately cease the sale of this batch, directing that all available stock be returned to the manufacturer, Zafa Pharmaceutical Company, based in Karachi.
The decision came after a Federal Drug Inspector in Karachi collected samples of Famila 150 mg injection for testing. The Central Drugs Laboratory, Karachi, subsequently declared Batch 083 substandard.
In response, DRAP ordered Zafa Pharmaceutical to stop further distribution of this batch and directed the National Regulatory Field Force to intensify market surveillance to ensure compliance.
Additionally, DRAP advised healthcare providers and patients to refrain from using Famila Injection Batch 083 until further notice, emphasizing patient safety as a top priority. Pharmacies have been instructed to promptly return all stock of the affected batch to the manufacturer.
