The Affordable Toyota Hilux Champ Goes Racing [Images]

Toyota’s Hilux Champ, priced at just $13,600 (around Rs. 37.78 lac) in Thailand, is a budget-friendly pickup designed purely for work.

This truck was inspired by the IMV 0 concept introduced in late 2022. Its low price and customizable design make it a versatile option for businesses.

Beyond its role as a workhorse, the Hilux Champ can even hit the racetrack. Toyota Gazoo Racing Team Thailand has turned it into a race-ready truck for the Super Pickup series.

This model features a rear-wheel-drive, single-cab setup, powered by a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine with more power than the standard version’s 148 hp and 400 Nm of torque.

This race variant comes with bold modifications, including fender flares, a rear wing, a lowered suspension, and a large intercooler. These updates make it race-ready in looks and performance, catching the attention of car enthusiasts.

Toyota’s modifications show that with the right tweaks even a basic pickup can be transformed for racing. Built on a ladder frame chassis, the Hilux Champ may lack sleek aerodynamics, but its front splitter and rear wing improve its performance on the track.

Competing against models like the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, and Isuzu D-Max, the Hilux Champ proves that affordable pickups can be tough, versatile, and even race-ready.
