Persistent air pollution in Lahore has led to a rise in various health issues despite the government’s efforts to control smog.
Hospitals in the city are reporting an increase in cases of dry cough, breathing problems, pneumonia, and chest infections, especially among children. Eye irritation, soreness, dry eyes, and skin issues have also become common due to prolonged exposure to smog.
The high levels of pollutants are worsening conditions for heart disease and asthma patients as well. According to a recent report, over 35,000 patients affected by smog were treated in just one week across five major hospitals in Lahore.
At Mayo Hospital alone, more than 9,000 patients were reported, while Jinnah Hospital saw 7,000 cases and Gangaram Hospital over 6,000. Both Services Hospital and General Hospital reported approximately 5,000 patients each, as per hospital sources.
