Amid worsening smog levels across Punjab, the provincial government has announced plans to pilot an artificial rain project in Rawalpindi. According to officials, the trial will move forward only if adequate cloud cover is present in the area.
Following this decision, environmental and other government departments have mobilized teams to Rawalpindi to oversee and implement the initiative.
This move comes as Punjab’s major cities, including Lahore, struggle with severe air pollution. Lahore was recently listed among the world’s most polluted cities, while Multan’s smog index has also reached hazardous levels.
Just yesterday, provincial authorities closed sections of the motorway due to limited visibility caused by intensifying smog.
Winds from neighboring India have reportedly worsened Lahore’s conditions, carrying smoke and particulates further into Pakistan. The smog and fog have now spread beyond Lahore, with increasing haze observed in Rawalpindi and the nearby federal capital, Islamabad.
