The official name for the UAE National Day celebrations has been announced as “Eid Al Etihad,” the organizing committee shared on Tuesday. The name underscores the theme of “union” (Etihad) and commemorates the unification of the Emirates on December 2, 1971. This theme highlights the country’s heritage, unity, strength, and national pride.
Each year on December 2, the UAE hosts a grand celebration, usually attended by the Rulers of the Emirates. While the location for this year’s event has not yet been disclosed, the committee revealed that there will be multiple activations in “Eid Al Etihad zones” across all seven Emirates.
This year’s National Day holiday marks the final long weekend of 2024, with December 2 and 3 falling on Monday and Tuesday, creating a four-day break when combined with the Saturday-Sunday weekend.
Eisa Alsubousi, Director of Strategic and Creative Affairs for the 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebration, said, “We are excited to invite everyone to join in the joy of this historic moment as we celebrate the unification of the seven emirates. To support these festivities, we have created comprehensive guides to inspire and assist in preparing for sustainable celebrations. We encourage government entities, private companies, schools, and families to download these resources and join in honoring this significant occasion.”
The 53rd Eid Al Etihad will also spotlight the importance of sustainability and collaboration. Residents are encouraged to participate thoughtfully by reducing waste, recycling or upcycling existing items, and reusing resources.
“One way to celebrate sustainably is by repurposing existing decorations for Eid Al Etihad. The 53rd Eid Al Etihad festivities include guides on how to participate responsibly, whether at home, school, or work. There’s always a way to contribute meaningfully and make a positive impact,” the organizers added.
