Tesla is recalling the Cybertruck EV for the sixth time this year. The issue involves a faulty drive inverter, which could cause a complete loss of torque and propulsion. This recall affects over 2,400 trucks produced since late 2023.
The Cybertruck has faced several recalls in 2024. Issues included incorrect warning light font sizes, unintended acceleration from a trapped pedal, a faulty front wiper, detachable truck bed trim, and a rear camera display fault. The latest recall is the most serious, as it could lead to a total loss of driveability.
The problem arises when the truck fails to produce torque when the driver presses the accelerator. This increases the risk of a collision. Tesla identified 2,431 trucks at risk, produced between November 2023 and July 2024. Although the total number of Cybertrucks produced is unclear, a previous recall affected nearly 27,000 units. This new recall affects a smaller portion of the fleet.
Tesla will replace the faulty inverter units at no cost to the owners.
