Army Deployed in Islamabad as PTI Protest Continues

The Ministry of Interior has deployed the Pakistan Army in Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution to address escalating security concerns. The decision follows clashes during protests led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), heightening tensions in the capital.

Authorities have directed security forces to take firm action, including shoot-on-sight orders against agitators causing unrest.  A notification from the interior ministry also allows the army to impose curfews in areas deemed necessary to restore law and order.

According to mainstream media, the protest turned deadly on Srinagar Highway, where a vehicle rammed into Rangers officials, killing four personnel and two policemen. Another attack in Rawalpindi at Chungi No. 26 saw individuals pelting stones and firing at security forces, critically injuring a Ranger.

The injured officer was transferred to CMH Rawalpindi for treatment. The red zone in Islamabad remains heavily fortified, with Rangers deployed at key locations. Officials have emphasized taking all measures to prevent further violence and ensure public safety.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited D-Chowk and attended the funeral of martyred Constable Mubashar Bilal. Speaking to the media, Naqvi condemned PTI’s intentions, accusing them of seeking violence for political gain. He revealed the government had offered an alternative protest site in Sangjani, but no final response from PTI had been received.

“Protesters won’t be allowed into D-Chowk,” Naqvi stated, warning of strict action, including curfews if necessary, to protect Islamabad’s sensitive zones.
