Lahore Implements Strict Vehicle Ban to Reduce Smog

In an effort to tackle Lahore’s growing smog problem, the Punjab government has enforced a complete ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city for three days, starting Friday through Sunday. The restriction aims to reduce pollution and improve air quality.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar confirmed that heavy vehicles, including loader trolleys and other large trucks, will not be allowed to enter the city during this period. The ban also extends to vehicles that are emitting excessive smoke or do not have a valid fitness certificate.

To ensure the ban is strictly followed, law enforcement officers will be stationed at 12 key entry and exit points of Lahore, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). Amara Athar emphasized that while most vehicles are prohibited, exceptions will be made for passenger vehicles, buses, and those transporting essential goods like food and medicine.

The government has made it clear that they are taking all necessary measures to enforce this ban. Athar urged transporters to cooperate with the authorities, stressing that everyone’s efforts are needed to reduce pollution and protect public health. “We must unite to eliminate smog and improve the environment for Lahore’s residents,” she said.

Additionally, Lahore Traffic Police have launched a crackdown on vehicles emitting hazardous smoke. Thousands of vehicles have already been fined or impounded for violating the smog regulations. The city has also deployed 41 anti-smog squads to conduct inspections and ensure compliance.

With these steps, the authorities are working to reduce Lahore’s pollution levels and ensure a healthier environment for its citizens.
