Pakistan has teamed up with the Czech Republic to set up electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plants. This collaboration aims to strengthen trade relations and promote green technologies. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Cheema, discussed the partnership with H.E. Ladislav Steinhubel, the Czech Ambassador to Pakistan.
The two sides agreed to form Joint Working Groups (JWGs) to focus on specific sectors before the Pak-Czech Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting in April 2025 in Islamabad. This session will help boost trade and cooperation, especially in areas like renewable energy, IT, and healthcare.
Growing Economic Ties
Minister Cheema noted that trade between Pakistan and the Czech Republic stands at 84 million USD. He emphasized the need to grow this figure, particularly through sectors with great potential, such as green technologies and nanotechnology. He also welcomed the recent activation of the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the two countries, which will pave the way for deeper economic collaboration.
Focus on Electric Vehicles
One of the main goals of this partnership is to set up EV manufacturing plants in Pakistan. The Czech Republic is known for its expertise in technology, and this will help Pakistan develop its EV industry. The plants will play a big role in Pakistan’s efforts to reduce pollution and promote cleaner transportation.
