A New Delhi to Jeddah IndiGo Airlines flight landed unscheduled at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after a passenger suffered a medical emergency mid-flight.
According to aviation sources, the incident involved a 55-year-old male passenger who became critically ill while the plane was flying through Pakistani airspace.
The passenger’s condition worsened despite the crew administering oxygen, prompting the pilot to seek emergency assistance.
Acting swiftly, the pilot contacted Karachi Air Traffic Control to request permission for an emergency landing. The request was approved, and the plane safely landed at Karachi’s airport.
Upon arrival, a Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority medical team boarded the aircraft and provided immediate care to the passenger, stabilizing his condition. The passenger, identified as an Indian Muslim, was also given medication during treatment.
Once the situation was under control, the flight did not proceed to Jeddah but returned to New Delhi, as confirmed by airport officials.
