Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Ammara Ather has directed authorities to intensify the ongoing crackdown on vehicles operating without proper number plates. This step aims to curb violations and prevent misuse of e-challan systems in the city.
The Lahore traffic police have already issued 221,000 fines to vehicles found without number plates. CTO Ammara Ather emphasized that strict fines will be imposed on vehicles displaying “Applied For,” bogus, or non-identified number plates.
She pointed out that some drivers cover their number plates with black sheets to avoid detection by e-challan cameras. In addition, using fancy number plates on cars and motorcycles is strictly prohibited, and legal action will be taken against violators.
Ather also warned that vehicles with bogus or fake number plates will lead to the registration of cases against their owners. However, she assured that legal vehicle owners will not face unnecessary action. Those who have applied for official number plates must carry their excise slip as proof to avoid penalties.
The CTO highlighted that these measures are necessary to discourage illegal and non-duty-paid vehicles, ensuring safer and more organized traffic on Lahore’s roads.

There will never be a strict action because if it’s done revenue making practice will be gone. So the strategy is fine for profit then wait for people back to fancy number plates and fine again.
