Kuwait Freezes as Temperatures Dip to -3°C in Different Parts

Kuwait is experiencing an unusually intense cold spell, with temperatures dropping as low as -3°C in some areas, according to the Meteorology Department.

The cold weather is expected to continue, with chilly daytime conditions and even colder nights, particularly in rural and desert regions.

Dharar Al Ali, Director of the Meteorology Department, explained that the country is currently under the influence of a prolonged high-pressure system, which is bringing a cold and dry air mass. This, coupled with cooling in the upper atmosphere and light to moderate northwesterly winds, is causing the unusually low temperatures.

Weather stations across Kuwait have reported freezing conditions: -3°C at Salmi, -2°C at Abdali, and -6°C at Kuwait International Airport. Frost is likely to develop in agricultural and desert areas, with the cold wave expected to persist until Thursday.

Al Ali noted that the high-pressure system’s effects will begin to diminish by Friday evening, as a low-pressure system moves in. This shift will bring warmer southeasterly winds and a gradual rise in daytime temperatures. Light rain is also possible in some areas starting Friday evening.

The Kuwait Meteorology Department has advised residents to take precautions against the cold, especially during the early morning hours.
