X’s premium subscription service, Premium+, is getting a significant price jump. The monthly cost is rising by 37.5%, from $16 to $22. This marks the steepest price increase since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform in 2022.
Starting December 21, users in the U.S. will be the first to see the change, according to a company statement. Annual subscriptions are also affected, increasing from $168 to $229.
X explains this “adjustment” is necessary to maintain the quality of its service. Current subscribers will keep their existing rates until January 20.
The price hikes aren’t limited to U.S. International users, who will also see changes. In the European Union, the monthly Premium+ subscription will increase from €16 to €21. Canadian subscribers will see a rise from $20 to $29.
However, some markets are facing far steeper increases. In Nigeria, the cost of X Premium+, which eliminates ads and offers extra features, is skyrocketing from ₦7,300 to ₦34,000 per month. Turkish users will experience a similar jump, with the price rising from ₺300 to ₺770.
The platform’s basic subscription will remain at $3 a month.
X’s rival app Bluesky has recently been gaining a large amount of users, with most migrating from Elon Musk’s platform. Data from various reports shows that most of these users originated from the US during the elections.
This is because, during the elections, X heavily boosted the reach of Musk’s tweets in support of Donald Trump and was doing the same for the presidential candidate himself.
