Chicken Prices Go Out of Control With Nearly 100% Increase in One Week

Despite government claims of curbing inflation, the cost of essential commodities continues to climb, with chicken meat prices across the country witnessing a significant surge on Sunday.

In Islamabad, the federal capital, chicken prices nearly doubled within a week. The cost of chicken meat soared to Rs880 per kg, up from Rs450 just a week earlier. Similarly, live chicken prices increased sharply from Rs285 to Rs460 per kg, while desi chicken reached an unprecedented Rs900 per kg.

The trend was no different in Lahore, Punjab’s capital, where the price of broiler chicken meat per kg has now surpassed Rs700. Although the government’s price list had set the rate at Rs595, reports indicate that chicken meat is being sold for as much as Rs730 per kg at Tollinton Market.

The situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also reflects the broader nationwide trend. In Peshawar, the price of chicken rose by Rs70 within a week, reaching Rs510 per kg over the weekend. Live chicken, which was priced at Rs440 per kg according to the official rate last week, has also seen a notable increase.
