IT Ministry’s New E-Office System Is Disrupting Work At Govt Departments Instead of Improving It

The new E-Office system installed by the Ministry of IT and Telecom is negatively impacting workflow operations instead of improving them at all federal ministries and divisions, sources informed ProPakistani.

Sources said the E-Office — developed by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) — has many technical flaws which have made daily correspondence and work difficult for both government officers and civil servants. Surprisingly, CEO NITB Babar Bhatti said in a comment that he was unaware of the system having any technical problems.

Despite the Prime Minister’s orders to transition to a paperless workflow, federal ministries and departments remain heavily reliant on traditional paperwork, sources said.

The system has been plagued by hosting and capacity issues. More than 100 officers cannot login simultaneously, and when 25 percent of officers access the system at once, it automatically logs them out within two minutes. Frequent downtimes, lasting several hours, further disrupt overall operations.

Officers have also complained of difficulties in evaluating their professional performance due to system inefficiencies, with some resorting to manual paperwork. Many sub-departments within the ministries lack access to the E-Office system altogether, sources added.
