The Sindh Chief Minister has announced that the initial phase of the Malir Expressway will soon be accessible to the public. This announcement came during a meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to review the progress of the Malir Expressway. Key officials including Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Special Assistant Qasim Naveed, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, and others attended the session.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the first 9-kilometer stretch of the expressway has been completed. In response, Murad Ali Shah said, “I plan to open the first segment for public use on January 11 or 12.”
The Chief Minister further instructed the authorities to finalize work on the Quaidabad Intersection within two months and to enhance the Shah Faisal Intersection connecting to Airport Road.
It was also disclosed during the meeting that a toll of Rs. 100 will be charged for cars and Rs. 200 for buses traveling on the expressway. Eighteen toll booths have been set up, and the route will be monitored by seven to eight police patrol vehicles. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for automated toll collection systems and consistent patrolling to ensure smooth operations.
The Malir Expressway crosses the jurisdictions of five different police stations. The Chief Minister directed these stations to guarantee the security of the expressway. He also called for the deployment of ambulances, a fire brigade, and immediate arrangements for Rescue 1122 services to address emergencies effectively.
