FIA Arrests Assistant Sub-Inspector Police for Taking a $2,000 Bribe

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for accepting a $2,000 bribe to clear the crew of a foreign vessel at Port Qasim. Raids are also being conducted to arrest a Head Constable involved in the bribery.

The FIA revealed that Qasim Attaullah Mehmood, the former in-charge of Port Qasim Immigration, declared the entry of eight foreign ship technicians illegal.

He then blackmailed the ship’s captain and agent, demanding a bribe for their clearance. The technicians had arrived at Port Qasim from Mundra Port in India. Mehmood, along with Officer Zohaib, initially demanded $4,000 but later settled for $2,000.

According to standard immigration regulations, technicians are allowed to board foreign ships for work. However, Mehmood used his position to exploit the situation, pressuring the captain and agent for money in exchange for clearance.

The FIA has registered FIR No. 01/2025 and is investigating the case. ASI Mehmood has been arrested, and efforts are underway to apprehend Head Constable Zohaib.
