Govt Launches Motorbike Patrol Service on Motorways

A pilot project for a motorbike patrol service has been initiated to enhance security and surveillance on motorways, following the directive of Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan. The minister emphasized that 30 to 35 motorbikes should actively patrol different sectors of the motorways at the same time. In the initial phase, the motorway police will launch the service using their existing resources, with plans for further expansion in the future.

Highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts, the minister urged the National Highway Authority (NHA), Motorway Police, Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and district police to work together to ensure the success of this initiative. Additionally, he called for an effective strategy to curb the theft of protective fencing around motorways.

To strengthen the role of the Motorway Police, Abdul Aleem Khan proposed amendments to existing laws, granting them more authority. He stressed that the Motorway Police must take greater responsibility to safeguard citizens and create mechanisms to make motorway travel as secure as possible. Areas prone to crime and frequent fence theft must be identified, with accountability placed on NHA officers and the Motorway Police for incidents occurring under their jurisdiction.

The minister directed that damaged or stolen fences be promptly replaced. He also instructed the IG Motorway Police to collaborate with local law enforcement to ensure thorough follow-up on fence theft cases.

As part of the initiative, the Federal Minister tasked the Secretary of Communications with presenting a detailed report on coordinated actions within one week. This proactive approach aims to enhance motorway security and ensure the safety of travelers across the network.
