Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi inaugurated a 750kV solar energy system at the Agricultural University Peshawar on Friday, marking a significant step toward transitioning the province’s universities to renewable energy.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting green energy in educational institutions.
“We are transitioning universities to solar power. Today, we inaugurated the solar system at Agricultural University, and soon, all remaining electricity needs will also be met through solar energy,” Afridi stated.
The minister also announced plans to expand solar installations to other universities across the province, alongside ongoing initiatives to enhance the overall quality and infrastructure of higher education institutions.
Addressing financial challenges faced by universities, Afridi assured that the government was making concerted efforts to ensure their sustainability and support their development.
As part of the inauguration event, the minister planted a tree sapling, symbolizing the government’s dedication to environmental conservation and its ongoing plantation campaign.
