Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a goal of issuing 40,000 housing loans by May 2025.
During a recent meeting focused on the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative, she approved a budget of Rs. 62 billion for the program and instructed officials to expedite the loan distribution process.
She also requested a review of a proposal to raise the maximum loan amount from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2 million to provide greater financial support to applicants.
Officials briefed the chief minister on the progress of the initiative, reporting that approximately 5,000 individuals across Punjab have already accessed loans under the scheme, with over 4,200 homes nearing completion.
The program also includes a partnership with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Housing and Urban Development Department to provide ready-made homes to low-income families.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the program’s goal of ensuring housing for all, stating, “Every citizen deserves their own home. Housing is a fundamental right, and I want every homeless person to have a roof over their head.”
