Conviction Rate in Cybercrimes Less Than 3%: Mohsin Naqvi

Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi presented details of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime performance over the past five years in the National Assembly. The report covered complaints received, verifications, investigations, case registrations, and convictions from 2020 to 2024.

During this period, a total of 722,010 complaints were registered, of which 422,781 were verified, and 71,862 were investigated. However, compared to the complaints, only 5,342 cases were registered, and a mere 152 convictions were recorded, reflecting a conviction rate of just 2.84 percent of registered cases.

The data indicated a significant rise in cybercrime complaints over the years. In 2020, there were 102,000 complaints, which increased to 152,136 in 2023, marking a 49 percent rise. However, the number of complaints dropped to 123,893 in 2024, an 18 percent decrease compared to the previous year. A similar trend was observed in the verification process, which increased from 98,882 in 2020 to 83,552 in 2022 but declined to 68,627 in 2024.

Investigations also showed fluctuations over time. There were 9,112 investigations in 2020, rising to 18,100 in 2023, but dropping to 16,555 in 2024. Case registrations improved initially, with 601 cases registered in 2020, peaking at 1,469 in 2022, but falling to 1,044 in 2024. Arrests followed a similar pattern, with 625 arrests in 2020, reaching 2,007 in 2023, but declining to 1,382 in 2024.
