Last week, reports surfaced that Samsung is developing a tri-fold smartphone to compete with Huawei’s Mate XT. This device will launch in the second half of the year, and availability will be strictly limited to under 300,000 units due to the intricate manufacturing process involved.
However, a new report from Korea now indicates that the production numbers may be even lower, with only around 200,000 units planned. Samsung’s approach mirrors its cautious rollout of previous foldables, likely intended to assess market demand for this new form factor while managing production complexities.
Possible Launch Time
According to the report, Samsung has shared its production schedule with major component manufacturers, which will begin producing parts for the Samsung tri-fold in the second quarter of the year, between April and June. This could mean that Samsung is targeting a July launch similar to its current Z series foldable.
The device, which will have a screen size of just under 10 inches when fully unfolded, is still in the design phase, meaning final specifications are subject to change.
Samsung is actively developing the Galaxy Z Flip FE at the same time, and it is set to be launched this year alongside the tri-fold smartphone. As of now, sales of the Galaxy Z Fold SE remain under 100,000 units, but let’s not forget the Z Fold SE is only available in two markets.
Despite these limited numbers, Samsung aims to sell approximately 7 million foldable devices in 2025. This includes projections of 3 million Galaxy Z Flip 7 units, 2 million Fold 7 units, 900,000 Flip FE units, and 200,000 tri-fold smartphones.
