In a significant blow to India’s preparations for the 2025 Champions Trophy, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been advised bed rest due to a back injury.
According to reports, Bumrah is currently dealing with back swelling, which has raised alarms given his history of back-related injuries. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended that the 30-year-old fast bowler rest at home to allow the swelling to subside and the muscles to recover. Once his condition stabilizes, Bumrah is expected to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for further evaluation and rehabilitation.
According to reports, Bumrah could go to the CoE next week, but right now, there is no fixed date yet. He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, the future course of action will be ascertained. Some speculate that it could be a disc bulge or a muscle swelling of a higher grade.
This is not the first time Bumrah has faced back-related issues. The ace pacer has previously been sidelined for extended periods due to stress fractures in his lower back, which kept him out of action for much of 2022 and early 2023. While he made a successful return to international cricket earlier this year, this latest setback has reignited concerns about his long-term fitness and workload management.
Initial reports suggest that the injury is not being taken lightly, with the BCCI adopting a cautious approach to ensure Bumrah’s complete recovery. Given his pivotal role in India’s bowling attack, the team management is unlikely to rush him back into action, especially with the Champions Trophy on the horizon.
