The government has announced a grant of Rs2.5 million per school to enhance the infrastructure and facilities of government schools across the province, as reported by 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The allocated funds can be utilized with the approval of the School Management Council. These funds may be used for upgrading science labs, painting and varnishing, and constructing new classrooms. Additionally, concessions have been provided under the PREPA rules to facilitate the spending process.
Previously, school councils were permitted to spend only Rs200,000, and school heads were required to pay significant taxes to access these funds. The new allocation of Rs2.5 million will be provided separately from the non-salary budget.
Schools will continue to receive their routine Non-Salary Budget (NSB) allocation every three months. However, the Rs2.5 million grant is a one-time provision aimed at significantly improving school facilities.
