An American woman who traveled to Karachi for love refused to return home after her relationship ended, creating a scene at the airport, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.
According to airport officials, the woman, identified as Onijah Andrew Robinson, became distressed when her partner, 19-year-old Nidal Memon from Karachi’s Garden area, was unable to marry her due to his family’s objection. She had arrived in Pakistan on October 11 after meeting him on social media.
Robinson’s stay extended beyond her visa validity, leaving her stranded. Eventually, an NGO provided financial assistance and a return ticket. However, at Jinnah International Airport, she refused to board her flight, delaying Qatar Airways flight QR 611 to New York via Doha by 36 minutes.
After overstaying her visa, Robinson was handed over to airport police. Before her scheduled departure, she was also admitted to the airport’s emergency clinic due to flu and cold-related issues.
Authorities spent hours trying to convince her to return home. A two-member team from the US Consulate arrived at the airport to assist. However, they clarified that while they aimed to persuade her, they could not force her to leave.
Robinson refused any assistance from the US Consulate and, instead, left the airport in a taxi to an unknown location. “I am going to my husband,” she told police before leaving. According to airport authorities, she has been granted a 15-day permit to remain outside the airport.
