The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced that starting February 1, 2025, vehicles without an M-Tag or those with insufficient balance paying in cash will face a 25% higher toll on motorways.
According to an official notification from the NHA Directorate of Revenue (Finance Wing), this policy is part of efforts to implement a 100% M-Tag system on all motorways. The additional toll charge will be added to the regular toll rates, with a minimum extra fee of Rs. 50.
To ensure smooth implementation, the NHA has instructed its departments to circulate the notification widely and upload it to its official website. Motorists are advised to equip their vehicles with M-Tags to avoid paying higher tolls.
Separately, last year, the Punjab government introduced stricter rules for obtaining an M-Tag, a requirement for motorway travel.
Under the revised guidelines, vehicle owners must present a valid fitness certificate with their registration book and driver’s license to obtain an M-Tag.
