Last week, despite being banned, dog killings by Faisalabad and Jhang’s administrations were reported. This led to the Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants Pakistan (EARC-PK) suing the Faisalabad and Jhang administrations in a contempt of court case.
Justice Shahid Karim took notice of the issue and ordered the relevant departments in Faisalabad and Jhang to submit a reply to the court.
Now, after hearing their response, the Lahore High Court has issued orders against them.
Justice Shahid Karim has ordered the Livestock Department of Faisalabad to strictly follow the policy, threatening action against the responsible officers in case the order is not followed.
EARC is Pakistan’s first animal and environmental law firm and research think tank, advocating for vaccination and sterilization programs against stray dogs instead of killing them.
