NEPRA Officers Give Themselves 4X Salary Increase

Senior National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) officials have given themselves up to four times higher salaries without approval from the federal cabinet.

Chairman NEPRA’s salary has jumped to Rs. 3.25 million, while members now receive Rs. 2.95 million, more than the pay of superior court judges.

This increase includes a basic salary of Rs. 700,000 to Rs. 773,000, a regulatory allowance of Rs. 631,000 to Rs. 700,000, and ad hoc reliefs for 2021-2024 totaling over Rs. 1.9 million.

Additional perks include house rent (Rs. 176,000 to Rs. 206,000), car monetization (Rs. 96,000), and utilities (Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 35,000), reported Dawn.

The NEPRA Act 1997 requires federal government approval for such revisions but the increase was implemented without proper approval.

The move has widened pay disparities among regulatory bodies. Meanwhile, the remaining NEPRA officials and other regulators still continue to adhere to the Management Position (MP) scale set by the Finance Ministry.

  • Too little too late. Give them more. This country is made for government officers and government is failing the real owners of this land. Increase their salary by 10 times and provide them 5-10 servants as well. They are performing too well. They deserve this. Right?

  • If news is true and salary is monthly based then it is sad.
But truth is when you become part of esteblishment you got immunity and can do what ever you like. You are above the law or any accountability.

May Allah have mercy upon this nation who is victim of those who are supposed to serve but vast majority is working against their oaths.
