SUPARCO Makes Major Prediction About Sighting of Ramadan Moon

The Ramadan moon in Pakistan is expected to be born on February 28, 2025; however, its visibility is highly unlikely. According to the spokesperson of SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), the new moon will be born on February 28 at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

SUPARCO stated that at sunset on February 28, the moon will be only 12 hours old with an altitude of 5 degrees, which is insufficient for sighting. Furthermore, the angular distance between the moon and the sun will be just 7 degrees, making it impossible to be seen with the naked eye.

The spokesperson further explained that due to the moon’s low altitude and distance, it is improbable that the Ramadan crescent will be visible in Pakistan on February 28. Consequently, the first fast of Ramadan is expected to be on March 2, 2025. However, the final decision regarding moon sighting rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

On the other hand, the moon is expected to be visible in Saudi Arabia on February 28, which means that Ramadan will begin on March 1.

According to SUPARCO, the Shawwal moon is likely to be sighted on March 30, 2025, indicating that Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan may fall on March 31
