The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has approved the academic schedule for the 2025-26 school year, ARY News reported on Tuesday. The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Sindh government’s steering committee on education.
According to the newly approved calendar, the academic year 2025-26 will commence on April 7, 2025, shifting from the previously scheduled start date of August 1, 2025. For classes 9 and 10, board examinations are set for April with practical exams scheduled to begin in March. Additionally, intermediate examinations will start from April 28, 2025, as per the department’s spokesperson.
Notably, the current academic year 2024-25 in Sindh started on August 1, 2024, making this a significant change aimed at streamlining the education schedule.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Sindh Assembly passed the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 despite strong opposition. Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Law, presented the bill amidst protests and slogan chanting by MQM legislators.
The bill, which had earlier been returned by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori for reconsideration, aims to expand eligibility criteria for appointing vice-chancellors in public-sector universities to include serving bureaucrats. Despite the governor’s objections, the assembly reapproved the bill, thereby compelling the governor to grant his assent under Article 116, Section 3 of the Constitution, which mandates approval if a bill is passed again by the assembly.
