Lenovo showed off a folding screen laptop at Mobile World Congress 2025, and another laptop with an interesting gimmick, letting it charge up through solar power. The folding screen laptop is called the ThinkBook Flip and features an 18-inch foldable display.
The screen folds in half horizontally, creating two displays—one on the front and one on the back. When fully unfolded, it functions as a large-screen laptop, but users can also fold it flat into a tablet-like device.
Lenovo also introduced the Yoga Solar PC, a laptop that incorporates solar panels into its lid. Despite the addition of a solar panel, the laptop isn’t bulky at all. Lenovo claims that the Yoga Solar PC has a 24% solar power conversion rate, achieved by repositioning the gridlines typically found on solar panels behind the solar cells, allowing for greater energy absorption.
Lenovo’s software demonstrated that the solar panel accumulates around 7V in ambient light and up to 12V in direct sunlight, meaning it could potentially generate even more power under optimal conditions. The laptop weighs 1.1 KG, making it comparable to other modern ultrabooks.
Lenovo claims that 20 minutes of direct sunlight can provide approximately one hour of video playback. However, keep in mind that laptop makers often exaggerate battery-life claims. Still, if you use the laptop in bright light throughout the day you could potentially get an extra hour of battery life because of the solar panels.
The company always shows off niche concepts at the MWC and the Consumer Electronics Show each year, but they seldom become commercially available. We’ll have to wait and see if these concepts become available down the line.
