LESCO Approves Multi-Billion-Rupee Project to Prevent Overbilling

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has approved a major project worth Rs. 1.6 billion to modernize its billing system and curb electricity theft.

The initiative includes the installation of state-of-the-art smart meters to ensure accurate billing and real-time monitoring.

Under this project, LESCO will purchase 16,000 advanced meters, including bidirectional smart meters for solar power users and AMI meters for industries, tube wells, and new connections.

These high-tech meters will be connected to a central control room through SIM-based technology, allowing for precise meter readings without manual interference.

Consumers will now receive bills based on readings directly generated from the control room, eliminating errors and preventing overbilling. This step is expected to enhance transparency in the billing process while reducing electricity theft.

LESCO officials believe that the introduction of smart metering will significantly improve efficiency and ensure fair billing for all consumers.
