Huawei is Launching An “Unexpected Product” Next Week

Huawei is gearing up to unveil its next-generation foldable device, the Pocket 3, next week. While the official name hasn’t been confirmed yet, Richard Yu, Huawei’s top executive, teased the debut of an “unexpected product” — one that will be the first to run the company’s Android-free HarmonyOS Next platform.

The Pocket 3 is expected to mark a shift in design compared to its predecessor. According to leaks from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the device will feature a 6.28-inch inner foldable display with a wide 3:2 aspect ratio, giving it a tablet-like experience when unfolded. On the outside, there should be a 3.48-inch cover screen, which is slightly larger than what we typically see in clamshell foldables.

In terms of cameras, the Pocket 3 will likely come equipped with a 50MP main sensor, and early reports suggest the device will carry some level of water and dust resistance, though the exact rating is yet to be confirmed. It’s also said to include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button.

The form factor has been described as being close to a smaller iPad mini when unfolded, indicating Huawei is continuing its trend of experimentation with foldable designs.

With HarmonyOS Next taking the lead — a version of HarmonyOS that is fully independent from Android — Huawei’s Pocket 3 may signal not only a new hardware direction but also the beginning of a self-sustained software ecosystem, something Huawei has been working on for years.

The official launch is expected within the next few days.
