The government has decided to ban registration of new medical and dental colleges, sources revealed. According to reports, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) will no longer register new colleges.
The sources stated that the PMDC Council has approved the ban on new registrations. Under this decision, applications submitted after January 5 will not be considered, while applications from 13 medical colleges submitted before January 5 will still be reviewed.
According to sources, the shortage of faculty in medical colleges has led to this decision to halt new registrations.
Pakistan has 121 private and 66 public medical and dental colleges, according to the available data. The decision aims to maintain the standard of medical education in the country and address faculty shortages.
