Punjab Announces Cash Assistance for Mothers and Pregnant Women

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the launch of ‘Aghosh’, a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to pregnant women and mothers of children under two years old. Under this program, eligible women will receive PKR 23,000 in financial aid.

According to a statement from the Punjab government, the first phase of the ‘Aghosh’ program will be implemented in 13 districts, including:

• Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, and Lodhran.

Financial Assistance Breakdown

• PKR 2,000 will be given upon the first registration of a pregnant woman at a health center or Maryam Health Clinic.
• Pregnant women will receive PKR 1,500 per health check-up, totaling PKR 6,000 until childbirth.
• Upon delivery at a registered health center, women will receive PKR 4,000 as a gift.
• A PKR 2,000 incentive will be given for the baby’s first medical check-up within 15 days of birth.
• Families will receive PKR 5,000 for registering the child’s birth certificate at the health center.
• Mothers will receive PKR 4,000 for ensuring the child receives all necessary vaccinations, with PKR 2,000 per visit.

Government Commitment to Maternal and Child Healthcare

A dedicated toll-free helpline has also been launched to guide and assist women. CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that maternal and child healthcare is a fundamental right, and the government is committed to fulfilling its responsibility.

“It is heartbreaking to see mothers and children suffering in hospitals. Public resources rightfully belong to the underprivileged, especially those in remote areas. A healthy mother ensures a healthy family,” she stated.

She further highlighted that alongside medical services, the government is also providing financial assistance to support women in underprivileged areas. The ‘Aghosh’ program aims to improve both maternal and child health, ensuring a healthier start to life for newborns.
