The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is set to commence development projects across its various housing schemes under a sustainable development model.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Engineering Wing, chaired by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq on Tuesday, where the progress of ongoing projects in the provincial capital was also reviewed.
LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed and the project director provided a briefing, stating that Block B-3 in Gulberg has been developed under the sustainable model and will be fully completed in the coming days. Meanwhile, rapid development work is ongoing in C-1, D-1, and Sir Syed Road.
During the meeting, the LDA DG emphasized that additional blocks and link roads within the Gulberg Scheme will also be developed under the sustainable model. Expansion work on both sides of Main Boulevard Sabzazar is in progress, including the construction of footpaths, and the project is expected to be completed next month.
The meeting also reviewed progress on Tollinton Market, Jan Muhammad Road, and the link road from Madr-e-Millat to Rehmat Ali Road. Additionally, development work in the G-1 Market Commercial Zone is proceeding at full speed, both day and night.
The LDA DG instructed that the needs of traders should be considered alongside the ongoing development work in commercial zones. Meanwhile, LDA teams carried out a large-scale operation against illegal commercial structures and defaulters of commercial fees, sealing 78 properties in various areas.
The crackdown included operations in Gulberg, New Garden Town, Sabzazar, and UBD Canal Road, where 25 properties were sealed in Gulberg and New Garden Town, 20 on UBD Canal Road, and 33 in Sabzazar. The sealed properties included restaurants, clinics, workshops, private schools, stores, salons, shops, and offices. Chief Town Planner Asad-uz-Zaman supervised the operation.
Furthermore, as part of the Plant for Pakistan campaign, LDA Vice Chairman Mian Marghub Ahmed and LDA DG Tahir Farooq planted a sapling at the Township Office. The LDA DG announced that over 215,000 saplings are being planted, with more than 40,000 already planted in recent days. Of these, 25,000 saplings have been geotagged, and over 15,000 have been distributed among citizens.
